The Quest For The Cart

Saturday, December 11, 2010 0 comments

In our upcoming production of Liz Duffy Adams' Dog Act, the most important set piece is on wheels. Zetta and Dog are "vauders", performers traveling through a post-apocalyptic wild to reach (a mythical?) China, where their act will finally reach an audience of more than scavengers.

Essential to that act is The Cart, a mobile archive of every prop, costume, razzle, and dazzle of past vaudevillian ages. Around 200 years old, The Cart has been passed down from generation to generation, and Zetta guards it now. It is essential to her, to the act, to the world; and so therefore to our production.

So we have a a cart to make! And we're hoping you can help. If you have a farm style cart or wagon of enough size that it could house such a hoard, email me at gus (at) fluxtheatre (dot) org if you're open to parting with it free (or close to it). Vauders of this and many generations to come will thank you.

And now, pictures to inspire:

Save the Date - Flux Family Feud

Wednesday, October 13, 2010 0 comments

Flux is throwing a benefit party for our 4th Season: Don't Look Away on Monday night, November 15th, at the crazy beautiful North Cabana at the Maritime Hotel. As if the location and company weren't reason enough to enter 11/15 as booked in your google calendar or old-school-date-book; we're planning an unusual theme for the night:

Flux Family Feud.

That's right, a theatre-specific Family Feud style game, with teams made up of Indie theatre luminaries and theatre-specific questions. Survey says? Awesome.

So now here's the other way you can help - brainstorm some questions! We've come up with around 50 ourselves, but in the crowdsourced spirit of our viral age, we turn to you, dear reader, for more ideas.

Here are some examples to get your creative juices flowing:

1. Name something that would upset a stage manager
2. Name a common question asked an actor
3. Name something annoying an audience member may do during a performance
4. Name an actor’s biggest fear
5. Name a character in Shakespeare whose name starts with the letter ‘M’
6. Name something you would find backstage
7. Name something that drives you crazy about the Showcase Code
8. Name a rule of comedy
9. Name something to do on stage when carrying a spear
10. Name something you love about Indie theatre

Leave your brainstorming genius in the comments below!

Looking For Chairs

Saturday, October 24, 2009 0 comments

Taking a break from the theory for a more partcial consideration - Flux needs chairs.

No, not Stolen Chairs but the following model from Ikea that we need for The Lesser Seductions of History - here's the (edited) scoop from Jason Paradine, our Bobby and Production Manager:

"We have the unique challenge of needing 9 matching chairs for the show. The chair we are looking for is an Ikea model called the the STEFAN chair.
Any number of them will help. We would need to get them by Saturday, October 31st. We will need to paint them for the show - but can return them to black and return them after November 23rd."

If you have this chair and are willing to loan it to us, please post below, and thank you!

A special Food:Soul serves up Volleygirls

Wednesday, July 22, 2009 0 comments

Flux is thrilled to be presenting a staged reading of Rob Ackerman's Volleygirls as the next installment of our potluck play reading series, Food:Soul. We've helped develop this play over the past months, and were so thrilled to see it produced at A.C.T. We very much hope you'll join us Sunday, August 9th at 4:00 PM at Blondies Sports on The East Side at 1770 Second Avenue (Bet. 92nd & 93rd).

But this is no ordinary Food:Soul. In order to help raise money for our upcoming production of The Lesser Seductions Of History, we're making this one a party! With live bands, $3 drafts, and Flux's homecooked delights, we sincerely hope you'll join us to celebrate Rob's play, and help us meet our mid-season fundraising goal.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Click here now to get your tickets and save! The doors open at 4 for Flux-cooked food and cheap drinks, the staged reading of Volleygirls starts at 5:30, and the bands start rocking at 7! If you can't make the reading, come after 7 for the bands for only $10 and party late with Flux.

Out of town on August 9th? Don't worry, you can still be a part of the action by joining in our raffle. We have some great prizes - check it out here!

Whether you join us for the party, participate in the raffle, or just choose to make a mid-season donation here, your generosity is helping us meet our goal of landing on the moon with The Lesser Seductions Of History. Thank you for your support!
